PAEP

PAEP encodes progestagen-associated endometrial protein (also known as glycodelin or PP14), a secreted glycoprotein expressed in reproductive tissues. It inhibits sperm acrosome reaction to regulate fertilization, and modulates endometrial receptivity via immune regulation, interacting with progesterone signaling pathways to support embryo implantation.
Dysregulated PAEP expression correlates with infertility (reduced levels in implantation failure) and endometriosis. It serves as a potential biomarker for ovarian cancer prognosis, and ongoing research explores its role as a therapeutic target in reproductive pathologies, though clinical trials remain in early stages.
