PDE10A

PDE10A, or phosphodiesterase 10A, alias ADSD2, IOLOD, HSPDE10A, PDE10A19, LINC00473. It is an enzyme expressed in human cells and belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family.
PDE10A is expressed mainly in medium-sized polyspiny neurons in the cerebral striatum, where it participates in the regulation of intracellular signaling pathways through hydrolysis of the second messengers cAMP and cGMP. PDE10A has a higher affinity for cAMP, and therefore hydrolyzes it more efficiently.
Aberrant expression of PDE10A has been associated with a variety of basal ganglia psychiatric and movement disorders, such as schizophrenia, Huntington's disease, etc. Selective inhibitors of PDE10A have been recognized as potential drugs for the treatment of related neurological and psychiatric disorders.
