PDZK1, or PDZ structural domain protein 1, is a member of the protein family of Na+/H+ exchange regulators and a classical cell membrane scaffolding/adaptor protein.PDZK1 plays a role in a variety of biological processes, including the regulation of lipid metabolism and participation in high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-mediated signalling pathways.PDZK1, through the PI3K/ERK2 signalling pathway upregulates nitric oxide production to inhibit replication of certain pathogens such as porcine circovirus type 2. In addition, PDZK1 plays a regulatory role in the pathophysiological process of atherosclerosis and may be a potential target for disease treatment and prevention.
