RAB6B

RAB6B encodes a small GTPase belonging to the RAB family of the RAS superfamily, with its full name being RAB6B, member RAS oncogene family (no widely accepted common aliases). As a molecular switch, it cycles between GTP-bound active and GDP-bound inactive states, regulating vesicular trafficking between the Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, and plasma membrane, thus maintaining intracellular protein transport homeostasis.
Aberrant RAB6B expression is linked to colorectal and lung cancers—its overexpression promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by altering vesicular transport of growth factors or adhesion molecules. Preclinical studies are exploring small-molecule inhibitors targeting its GTPase activity or protein-protein interactions, though no candidates have entered clinical trials to date.
