RBBP7 encodes retinoblastoma binding protein 7, a 48 kDa nuclear protein also known as RbAp48. It functions as a histone chaperone, facilitating chromatin remodeling by interacting with histone H4 and regulating nucleosome assembly/disassembly. RBBP7 is a core component of chromatin-modifying complexes including NuRD and Sin3,参与epigenetic regulation of gene expression through histone deacetylation.
Dysregulated RBBP7 expression correlates with multiple cancers, including breast and colorectal carcinoma, where it modulates tumor suppressor pathways such as p53 and Rb. Preclinical studies investigate its role in cancer stem cell maintenance, though no targeted therapeutics are currently in clinical development. Its interactions with chromatin remodeling machinery make it a potential epigenetic drug target.
