RIOK1, also known as right open reading frame kinase 1, is a serine/threonine-protein kinase. It has no widely - recognized common aliases. RIOK1 is involved in ribosome biogenesis, specifically in the maturation of the 40S ribosomal subunit. It functions in the signal pathway of ribosome synthesis and assembly.
Mutations or abnormal expression of RIOK1 are associated with various cancers, as it promotes cell proliferation and survival. In drug development, RIOK1 has emerged as a potential target. Some research groups are exploring small - molecule inhibitors against it, aiming to halt cancer progression by disrupting ribosome biogenesis.
