SLC30A1 encodes the Zinc Transporter 1 (ZnT1) protein. Also known as Solute Carrier Family 30 Member 1, ZnT1 is a key player in zinc homeostasis. It mediates the efflux of zinc ions from the cytoplasm to the extracellular space, maintaining optimal intracellular zinc levels. ZnT1 is involved in the MAPK signaling pathway.
