SPINT1

SPINT1 encodes the serine peptidase inhibitor, Kunitz type 1, also known as Hai - 1. This protein is a transmembrane glycoprotein with Kunitz - type protease inhibitor domains. It plays a critical role in regulating extracellular proteolytic activities. It is involved in the uPA/uPAR and MET signaling pathways, controlling cell - matrix interactions and cell migration.
Mutations in SPINT1 are associated with syndromic congenital sodium diarrhea and other epithelial disorders. In drug development, there is ongoing research to target the protease - inhibitor balance regulated by SPINT1, aiming to develop therapies for diseases related to abnormal proteolysis and cell behavior.
