The protein encoded by SRMS (Src-related kinase lacking C-terminal regulatory tyrosine and N-terminal myristylation sites) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase of the Src family. Common aliases include SRK (Src-related kinase). It mediates phosphorylation of target proteins, regulating cellular processes like proliferation, migration, and survival by activating downstream signaling cascades.
SRMS participates in pathways such as PI3K/Akt and MAPK, which are critical for tumorigenesis. Aberrant SRMS expression has been linked to breast and lung cancers. Currently, no selective SRMS inhibitors are approved, but preclinical studies explore repurposing Src family inhibitors (e.g., dasatinib) to target SRMS-driven malignancies, showing preliminary anti-tumor activity.
