SSNA1 encodes the SSNA1 coiled-coil domain-containing protein, commonly aliased as NA14. A microtubule-associated factor, it interacts with α/β-tubulin heterodimers to regulate microtubule polymerization and spindle apparatus assembly during mitosis. SSNA1 is integrated into mitotic checkpoint pathways. Dysregulation, particularly overexpression, is linked to breast and ovarian carcinomas, where it drives tumor cell proliferation and metastasis. Preclinical research explores small molecules targeting SSNA1-tubulin binding as potential anticancer therapies, though no candidates have advanced to clinical trials.
