TACC2

The protein encoded by TACC2 is Transforming Acidic Coiled-Coil Containing Protein 2, commonly referred to as ECTACC or TACC family member 2. It plays a crucial role in regulating microtubule dynamics and spindle assembly during mitosis through interactions with ch-TOG and clathrin, maintaining genomic stability by ensuring proper chromosome segregation.
TACC2 is involved in the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, where its dysregulation contributes to tumorigenesis, particularly in breast, ovarian, and lung cancers. Its overexpression correlates with poor prognosis by promoting cell proliferation and metastasis. While no specific TACC2-targeted drugs are in clinical use, preclinical studies investigate its potential as a therapeutic biomarker and target for anti-cancer agents, focusing on inhibiting its microtubule-stabilizing functions to disrupt cancer cell division.
