TAF15

TAF15, full name TATA box-binding protein-associated factor 15 (68 kDa), is an RNA polymerase II-associated factor and member of the FET protein family (FUS, EWSR1, TAF15). Aliases include hTAFII68 and TAF2N. It forms part of the TFIID complex, critical for transcription initiation, and acts as an RNA-binding protein involved in mRNA splicing, transport, and stability.
TAF15 dysregulation links to neurodegenerative diseases (ALS, frontotemporal dementia) via toxic protein aggregation, and cancers (e.g., sarcomas) through fusion events (e.g., TAF15-CREB3L2). Preclinical research explores aggregation inhibitors for neurodegeneration and targeted therapies against fusion proteins, though no approved drugs exist yet.
