AADAC

AADAC encodes arylacetamide deacetylase, a serine hydrolase also known as DAS. It catalyzes the deacetylation of arylacetamide-containing compounds, playing a key role in phase I drug metabolism. This enzyme modulates the bioavailability and toxicity of drugs like acetaminophen and certain chemotherapeutics by converting prodrugs to active forms or inactivating toxic metabolites.
Dysregulation of AADAC is linked to altered drug response in cancers (e.g., colorectal cancer), where its overexpression may reduce the efficacy of acetylated chemotherapeutics. Current research focuses on developing selective AADAC inhibitors to enhance drug sensitivity in resistant tumors, though clinical trials remain in early stages.
