ALDH1A1, from the aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family, is mainly expressed in tissues such as the liver, duodenum, and stomach. The mechanism of action of ALDH1A1 is to oxidize retinal to retinoic acid through its catalytic activity, which plays a critical role in the metabolism of vitamin A substances and is also important in maintaining cellular homeostasis and protecting cells from the toxicity of reactive aldehydes. ALDH1A1 not only participates in normal physiological processes such as visual circulation and cell differentiation, but is also associated with the occurrence and development of various diseases, including metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and tumors. The abnormal expression of ALDH1A1 is related to the maintenance of tumor stem cell characteristics, metabolic remodeling, and enhancement of DNA repair ability, and is an important target in tumor therapy. In addition, the high expression of ALDH1A1 in tumor cells may lead to chemotherapy resistance. The development of ALDH1A1 inhibitors is of great significance in cancer treatment.
