ASCL1

The protein encoded by ASCL1 is Achaete-Scute Family BHLH Transcription Factor 1, commonly referred to as ASH1. As a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor, it binds E-box motifs in target gene promoters, regulating neural differentiation by driving the transition of neural progenitor cells to mature neurons—critical for embryonic neurodevelopment and adult neurogenesis.
ASCL1 is a key biomarker for small cell lung cancer (SCLC)’s neuroendocrine subtype, where its overexpression promotes tumorigenesis. It also关联 with other neuroendocrine tumors.
