ASGR1

ASGR1, heparin-binding growth factor-related receptor 1, alias heparin-binding protein 1 (HBP1), heparin-binding growth factor receptor (HBGR).ASGR1 is a cell-surface receptor expressed primarily in the liver and encoded by a gene in human cells themselves. Its mechanism of action involves binding to a variety of ligands, including heparin-binding growth factor (HB-EGF), heparin, and certain lipoproteins, etc. By binding to these ligands, ASGR1 is involved in the regulation of processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration, and also plays a role in lipid metabolism and immune responses.

The biological significance of ASGR1 is mainly reflected in its role in regulating the function of the liver. It is involved in the hepatic uptake and metabolism of lipids, especially the clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). In addition, ASGR1 is associated with the regenerative capacity of the liver, and it participates in the repair process after liver injury by promoting the proliferation of hepatocytes. In pathological states, the abnormal function of ASGR1 may be associated with certain liver diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and liver fibrosis. Therefore, ASGR1 is a potential target in the study and treatment of liver diseases.
