BGLAP

BGLAP, also referred to as Osteocalcin, is a key non-collagenous protein produced by osteoblasts and part of the osteocalcin/matrix GLA protein family. Though it makes up just 1-2% of the bone's total protein and has a modest impact on bone mineralization and density, BGLAP has substantial endocrine functions, such as regulating glucose levels, influencing motor function, brain development, cognitive performance, and male fertility. It is a marker for bone formation, and its serum levels can suggest the presence of metabolic syndrome. As a critical indicator of bone metabolism, BGLAP affects the mineralization process and the resulting quality and strength of bones.
