CD2

CD2, also known as cluster of differentiation 2, is a cell - surface glycoprotein. It's commonly referred to as T - 11, LFA - 2. CD2 plays a key role in T - cell activation and adhesion. It binds to its ligand CD58, triggering intracellular signaling cascades, such as activating kinases and calcium - dependent pathways.
This protein is involved in the immune response. Abnormalities in CD2 function are associated with some autoimmune diseases and immunodeficiencies. In drug development, targeting CD2 has potential for treating immune - related disorders. Some monoclonal antibodies against CD2 are under research to modulate the immune system.
