COL11A1

Collagen alpha-1(XI) chain, encoded by COL11A1, is a key subunit of type XI collagen—a minor fibrillar component of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Aliases include EDM2 (Stickler syndrome type II) and collagen type XI alpha 1. It co-assembles with type II and IX collagens to regulate fibril diameter, preserving ECM integrity in cartilage, vitreous humor, and intervertebral discs.
COL11A1 dysregulation causes Stickler syndrome type II (autosomal dominant, affecting skeleton and eyes) and Marshall syndrome. Overexpression links to osteoarthritis progression and metastatic cancers (e.g., pancreatic). Preclinical research targets COL11A1 or its signaling pathways for therapy, though no drugs are approved yet.

IHC image of CSB-PA005716LA01HU diluted at 1:300 and staining in paraffin-embedded human breast cancer performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.
