CTPS2

Cytidine Triphosphate Synthase 2 (CTPS2), also known as CTP synthase II, catalyzes the rate-limiting step in de novo CTP synthesis—converting UTP to CTP using glutamine and ATP. This enzyme supports nucleotide metabolism, critical for RNA/DNA biosynthesis and phospholipid production.
CTPS2 participates in pyrimidine metabolic pathways. Dysregulation is linked to cancers like colorectal and breast, as elevated expression fuels rapid cell proliferation. While non-specific nucleoside analogs target CTPS family enzymes, CTPS2-specific inhibitors are in early preclinical development, aiming to disrupt tumor nucleotide supply without off-target effects.
