CYB5B

Cytochrome b5 type B (CYB5B), also known as microsomal cytochrome b5-like protein, is a heme-containing electron carrier. It mediates electron transfer for fatty acid desaturation and cholesterol biosynthesis via enzymes like stearoyl-CoA desaturase, and modulates cytochrome P450-driven drug metabolism, affecting xenobiotic detoxification or bioactivation.
Dysregulation of CYB5B links to lipid disorders (e.g., hypercholesterolemia) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Preclinical studies explore small-molecule inhibitors targeting CYB5B to restore lipid homeostasis or enhance drug metabolism safety, though no candidates have entered late-stage clinical trials yet.
