DCLK1

DCLK1, or double-cortin-like kinase 1, alias CL1, DCLK, CLICK1, DCDC3A, DCAMKL1, is encoded by the human DCLK1 gene, which is located on chromosome 13 in the q13.3 region.
DCLK1 is a multi-structural domain protein belonging to the protein kinase superfamily and the bicortin family that plays a role in different cellular processes such as neuronal migration, retrograde transport, neuronal apoptosis and neurogenesis. DCLK1 is associated with memory and general cognitive performance and is upregulated by brain-derived neurotrophic factors.
Abnormal DCLK1 expression has been associated with a variety of disorders, including BandHeterotopia, ZellwegerSyndrome, benign tumors of the colon, lymphangiomas, and congenital neurological anomalies. DCLK1 is expressed at increased levels in a variety of human cancers and may influence cell growth by regulating developmental pathways such as NOTCH and WNT.
