DRD3

DRD3, also known as the dopamine D3 receptor, and by other names such as D3 dopamine receptor or Dopamine D3 receptor, is a type of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and a member of the dopamine receptor family. It is encoded by the human gene DRD3. DRD3 is predominantly expressed in the limbic regions of the brain and is associated with cognitive, emotional, and endocrine functions. Its mechanism of action involves interacting with G proteins to inhibit adenylate cyclase activity, thereby influencing intracellular signaling pathways.

DRD3 is involved in regulating multiple physiological processes, including motor control, emotional responses, cognitive function, and endocrine regulation. Abnormal expression or function of DRD3 has been linked to various neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome, and substance dependence. Studies have shown that genetic variations in the DRD3 gene may be related to susceptibility to certain diseases, such as hereditary essential tremor. Therefore, DRD3 is a potential target in neuroscience research and the treatment of related diseases.
