ERVK-6

ERVK-6 encodes the HERV-K (HML-2) Gag protein, a structural polyprotein involved in retroviral-like particle assembly. It mediates capsid formation and RNA packaging through interactions with viral genomic RNA and cellular factors.
The protein is linked to p53 signaling pathway modulation, potentially influencing cell cycle regulation. Aberrant expression correlates with certain cancers, including breast and ovarian malignancies. Limited drug development targeting ERVK-6 exists, with research focusing on small molecule inhibitors of its protease activity.
