FGF8

FGF8 encodes fibroblast growth factor 8, also known as androgen-induced growth factor or FGF-8. This secreted protein belongs to the FGF superfamily and regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue patterning by binding to FGF receptors (FGFRs), activating downstream signaling cascades like MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways.
FGF8 dysregulation is linked to various cancers, including breast, prostate, and gastric malignancies, where its overexpression promotes tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. Preclinical studies explore FGFR inhibitors as targeted therapies, though clinical development is ongoing due to challenges in selective receptor blockade and overcoming resistance mechanisms.
