GP6

GP6, referred to as glycoprotein VI, is a membrane-bound glycoprotein encoded by the GP6 gene. It is found on the surface of platelets and endothelial cells, where it engages with collagen and von Willebrand factor. This interaction is crucial for platelet adhesion and aggregation, processes that are vital for blood coagulation and the healing of wounds. GP6 contributes to the regulation of hemostasis and is linked to conditions such as thrombotic disorders and platelet dysfunction. Abnormalities in GP6 can lead to disruptions in platelet activity and the balance of blood clotting, underscoring its significance as a target for research and treatment within the field of hematology.
