HBG1 is the gene encoding the γ-chain in adult haemoglobin and is located in the haemoglobin gene cluster on human chromosome 11.The γ-chain expressed by the HBG1 gene binds to the α-chain to form foetal haemoglobin HbF, a haemoglobin that has a high affinity for oxygen during the foetal period and contributes to oxygen acquisition from the mother. As the infant grows after birth, the expression of HBG1 gradually decreases and adult haemoglobin HbA (encoded by the HBA1 and HBB genes) becomes the predominant form.Mutations in the HBG1 gene may lead to haemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell anaemia, which affects the normal morphology and function of erythrocytes. Thus, HBG1 is biologically important in foetal development, oxygen transport and the development of related blood disorders.

Validated Data
Based on the SEQUEST from database of E.coli host and target protein, the LC-MS/MS Analysis result of CSB-EP010155HU could indicate that this peptide derived from E.coli-expressed Homo sapiens (Human) HBG1.
