HKDC1

HKDC1, hexokinase-containing structural domain 1, alias RP92, is encoded by the human HKDC1 gene, which is located on chromosome 10 in the q22.1 region, and encodes a protein belonging to the hexokinase family of proteins involved in glucose metabolism.
The mechanism of action of HKDC1 involves its activity in glucose metabolism, and although its glucose phosphorylation activity is relatively low, it may have a “side” function in addition to its typical hexokinase activity.
Reduced expression of HKDC1 may be associated with gestational diabetes, whereas its high expression may be associated with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma. Aberrant expression of HKDC1 in some cancers correlates strongly with overall patient survival, suggesting that it may play a role in cancer progression. HKDC1 may also promote tumor immune escape through coupling to the cytoskeleton by activating STAT1 and enhancing PD-L1 expression. HKDC1 has been recognized as a potential target for cancer therapy, especially in the treatment of liver and lung cancers.
