IFI27

IFI27, also known as interferon α-induced protein 27, has alternative names including P27, ISG12, FAM14D, and ISG12A. IFI27 is an important immune regulatory protein that participates in various biological functions such as apoptosis, autophagy, and lysis of tumors. As a ligand protein, IFI27 plays a role in different biological processes, including inducing apoptosis through the signal transduction pathway, particularly in type I interferon-induced apoptosis. This is achieved by promoting the rapid release of cytochrome C from mitochondria and activating BAX, caspases 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9. Additionally, IFI27 has antiviral activity in innate immune responses and inhibits hepatitis B virus (HCV). It may promote the ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation of NS5A by recruiting HCV nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) and through ubiquitination mechanisms. IFI27 is expressed in various cancers, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, and squamous cell carcinoma, playing both inhibitory and pro-inflammatory roles in tumor development.
