IFNA2, also known as interferon-α2, is a member of the IFN-α family of interferons, with antiviral, antitumor, and immunomodulatory functions. It is a protein composed of approximately 165-166 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of approximately 18-21 kDa and a structure composed of α-helices and β-sheets. The IFNA2 gene is located on human chromosome 9 and is clustered with other IFN-α subtype genes. Its main functions include activating intracellular antiviral defense mechanisms, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, promoting tumor cell apoptosis, and enhancing immune cell activity. By binding to its receptor, IFNA2 activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, which then phosphorylates STAT proteins, leading to their dimerization and translocation to the nucleus, regulating the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs). Additionally, IFNA2 is involved in the PI3K-AKT and MAPK signaling pathways, participating in processes such as cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Clinically, IFNA2 is used to treat hepatitis B and C, as well as certain types of cancer, although treatment efficacy may be affected by individual differences, viral resistance, and side effects.
