IGFBP5

Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 5 (IGFBP5), also known as IBP-5, is a member of the IGFBP family. It binds to insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) with high affinity, modulating their biological actions. IGFBP5 can enhance or inhibit IGF activity depending on the cellular context. It is involved in the PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways.
In terms of diseases, IGFBP5 is associated with cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and osteoporosis. In cancer, it can either promote or suppress tumor growth. Regarding drug development, some research aims to target the IGFBP5-IGF axis to develop new therapies, but there is still a long way to go for practical applications.
