KCND2

KCND2 encodes the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily D member 2 (Kv4.2), a core subunit of fast-inactivating A-type potassium channels. Kv4.2 mediates transient potassium currents that regulate action potential repolarization, neuronal excitability in the CNS, and cardiac electrical activity. It forms complexes with auxiliary KChIPs and DPPs to fine-tune channel gating and membrane trafficking.
Dysfunction of Kv4.2 is associated with neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy, schizophrenia) and cardiac arrhythmias. Preclinical research explores small-molecule modulators targeting Kv4.2 to restore abnormal excitability; some candidates show efficacy in reducing seizure activity in animal models, though clinical translation remains in early stages.
