KLF1

KLF1, also known as EKLF, is a zinc finger protein with transcriptional activity and is a member of the KLF transcription factor family. KLF1 recognizes and binds to the CACCC sequence in the promoters or enhancers of erythroid-related genes through its highly conserved DNA binding domain composed of three tandem C2H2 zinc finger sequences at its C-terminus, thereby regulating gene expression. KLF1 is a fundamental erythroid lineage-specific transcription factor involved in cell differentiation, proliferation, and tumor formation. It plays a crucial role in erythropoiesis by directly activating the KLF3 gene, which in turn feedback-inhibits KLF1-driven erythrocyte proliferation upon activation. KLF1 also participates in the repair process following cardiac injury, initiating myocardial cell proliferation. Abnormal expression of KLF1 may be closely associated with various diseases, including cardiovascular and hematological disorders.
