LGALS3BP

LGALS3BP (lectin galactoside-binding soluble 3 binding protein), also termed galectin-3-binding protein or 90K/Mac-2 BP, is a secreted glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion, immune modulation, and tumorigenesis. It interacts with galectin-3 and integrins to regulate extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis, and immune evasion. Key pathways influenced include TGF-β signaling, NF-κB activation, and Wnt/β-catenin cascades, linking it to cancer progression and fibrosis. Elevated LGALS3BP levels correlate with poor prognosis in breast, lung, and colorectal cancers, while its immunosuppressive properties contribute to viral persistence in HIV and HCV infections. Therapeutic strategies targeting LGALS3BP-galectin-3 interactions are under preclinical evaluation, including monoclonal antibodies and glycomimetics.
