LPO

Lactoperoxidase (LPO), a heme-containing peroxidase, is abundant in exocrine secretions like saliva and milk. Its core mechanism involves catalyzing hydrogen peroxide-mediated oxidation of thiocyanate to hypothiocyanite, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that neutralizes pathogens. Common aliases include LPOX, and it supports innate immune defense at mucosal barriers.

Dysfunction of LPO correlates with oral infections (e.g., dental caries) and mastitis, as reduced activity weakens antimicrobial protection. In drug development, recombinant LPO is explored for topical antibacterial therapies, while its secretion levels serve as a biomarker for inflammatory or infectious conditions. It also interacts with oxidative stress pathways, linking it to immune-related disorders.

IHC image of CSB-PA013066LA01HU diluted at 1:300 and staining in paraffin-embedded human colon cancer performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.
