LRRC32, also known as leucine - rich repeat - containing protein 32, is also commonly referred to as glycoprotein A repetitions predominant (GARP). This protein is a transmembrane protein mainly expressed on the surface of regulatory T cells. It binds to latent TGF - β and plays a crucial role in activating TGF - β signaling pathways, which are involved in immune regulation and tissue repair.
Dysregulation of LRRC32 is associated with several diseases, including autoimmune disorders and cancer. In autoimmune diseases, abnormal LRRC32 function may lead to over - activation of the immune system. In cancer, it can contribute to immune evasion. Currently, drug development targeting LRRC32 is in progress, aiming to modulate its function for therapeutic benefits.
