MFAP5

MFAP5, also known as Microfibrillar-associated protein 5, is a crucial extracellular matrix protein. It is also commonly referred to as MAGP-2. MFAP5 is involved in the assembly of microfibrils and interacts with fibrillin and latent TGF-β binding proteins. It participates in the TGF-β signaling pathway, regulating cell growth, differentiation, and migration.
Dysregulation of MFAP5 has been linked to various diseases, including Marfan syndrome and cancer. In drug development, targeting MFAP5 could potentially lead to new treatments for these conditions. Current research is exploring how to modulate its function to interfere with disease - related signaling cascades.
