NCL

NCL, or nucleolin, is also commonly known as C23. It is a multifunctional phosphoprotein that is highly expressed in the nucleolus, nucleoplasm, and cytoplasm. Nucleolin plays crucial roles in various cellular processes such as ribosome biogenesis, cell proliferation, and stress response. It is involved in the mTOR and MAPK signaling pathways, which regulate cell growth and survival.
Dysregulation of nucleolin has been associated with numerous diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Due to its key role in disease - related pathways, nucleolin has emerged as a promising target in drug development. Several pre - clinical studies are underway to develop small molecule inhibitors and aptamers against nucleolin to combat these diseases.
