NFAT5

NFAT5, nuclear factor of activated T-cells 55, alias NFATZ, OREBP, NF-AT5, NFATL1, TONEBP. NFAT5 is encoded by the human NFAT5 gene, which is located on chromosome 16 in the q22.1 region. It is a transcription factor belonging to the family of nuclear factors of activated T cells. These proteins play a central role in immune response by induction of Gene transcription plays a central role. NFAT5 specifically regulates gene expression induced by osmotic stress in mammalian cells. Unlike other monomeric members of this family, NFAT5 exists as a homodimer and forms stable dimers with DNA elements.
NFAT5 plays an important role in cellular responses to changes in osmolality and is involved in a variety of cellular stress responses, including high salt diets, dehydration, and oxidative stress. Abnormal expression of NFAT5 has been associated with a variety of diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.
