PLAC1

The protein corresponding to the gene PLAC1 is placenta-specific 1 protein. It is also known as trophoblast glycoprotein 1. PLAC1 is situated on the surface of trophoblast cells and plays a crucial role in placental development and function. It is involved in cell adhesion and invasion processes, which are essential for successful implantation and placental formation.
PLAC1 is associated with the PI3K - AKT signaling pathway. Aberrant expression of PLAC1 has been linked to various cancers, such as breast and ovarian cancer. Currently, research is underway to develop targeted therapies against PLAC1. These drugs aim to disrupt its function in cancer cells, offering potential new treatment options.
