PTH

PTH, or parathyroid hormone, is also commonly known as parathormone. This protein is mainly secreted by the parathyroid glands. Its primary mechanism of action involves regulating calcium and phosphate levels in the body. It acts on the bones, kidneys, and intestines via the cAMP - mediated signaling pathway. Dysregulation of PTH is associated with diseases like hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism.
In terms of drug development, there are already some PTH - related analogs, such as teriparatide, which are used for treating osteoporosis. These drugs mimic the beneficial effects of PTH on bone growth, offering new treatment options for related bone diseases.
