RAD23A

RAD23A encodes RAD23 homolog A, a ubiquitin nucleotide excision repair (NER) factor also known as HR23A. It interacts with ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes and the proteasome, facilitating recognition and repair of UV-induced DNA lesions via the NER pathway. Additionally, it modulates the stability of tumor suppressors like p53, linking to DNA damage response (DDR) signaling.
Aberrant RAD23A expression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer and colorectal cancer, where impaired DNA repair drives genomic instability. Drug development efforts include combining RAD23A-targeted agents with PARP inhibitors to enhance therapeutic efficacy in DDR-deficient tumors, though clinical trials remain in early phases.
