SEC24A encodes the Protein transport protein Sec24A. It is also commonly known as SEC24-like protein A. This protein plays a key role in vesicle formation at the endoplasmic reticulum. It recognizes cargo proteins and is involved in the COPII - coated vesicle budding process, which is crucial for transporting proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus.
