SLC10A1

SLC10A1, also known as NTCP, is a transmembrane protein encoded by the SLC10A1 gene. It is predominantly expressed on hepatocytes and is crucial for bile acid transport. SLC10A1 facilitates the transfer of bile acids from the bloodstream into hepatocytes, a key process in bile acid metabolism and excretion. Its dysfunction is linked to conditions like familial cholestatic jaundice and cholelithiasis, as well as certain liver diseases.
