SLC5A2SGLT2 is a transporter protein that plays a crucial role in the kidneys, responsible for reabsorbing glucose from the primary urine and transporting it back into the systemic circulation. It mainly exists in the proximal convoluted tubule of the renal tubules and functions by co-transporting sodium ions and glucose molecules to achieve glucose reabsorption. SGLT2 plays a crucial role in regulating the body's glucose balance. Currently, inhibitors targeting SGLT2 have become an important category of drugs for treating type 2 diabetes, helping to lower blood sugar levels by promoting the excretion of excess glucose by inhibiting SGLT2. In addition, SGLT2 inhibitors are also being studied for the treatment of cardiovascular and kidney diseases.
