SSTR1

Somatostatin receptor 1 (SSTR1), alternatively named SRIFR1, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that mediates somatostatin (SST) signaling. Upon SST binding, it inhibits adenylate cyclase activity, reducing intracellular cAMP levels, thereby regulating cell proliferation, hormone secretion, and neurotransmission in tissues like the brain and gastrointestinal tract.
Aberrant SSTR1 expression links to neuroendocrine tumors (e.g., pituitary adenomas) and gastrointestinal cancers. Selective SSTR1 agonists are under preclinical investigation as targeted therapies—they suppress tumor growth by modulating downstream pathways like MAPK and PI3K/Akt, offering potential for treating SSTR1-positive malignancies.
