XIAP

XIAP, or X-chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein, is a member of the IAP family and is encoded by the XIAP gene. It is expressed in various cell types and primarily functions to block the effector phase of apoptosis by directly inhibiting apoptotic proteases, such as caspase-3, -7, and -9. XIAP also interacts with proteins like Smurf1 and Tolloid, participating in cell cycle regulation and development. It plays a role in physiological and pathological processes, including cell survival, immune regulation, and apoptosis. Abnormal XIAP expression is associated with the development of some cancers, making it a potential target for antitumor drug development.
