Reconstitution

We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Please reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL.We recommend to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20°C/-80°C. Our default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. Customers could use it as reference.

Storage Condition

Description

The expression region of this recombinant Human DCD covers amino acids 20-110. The theoretical molecular weight of the DCD protein is 36.3 kDa. This DCD protein is produced using e.coli expression system. The DCD gene fragment has been modified by fusing the N-terminal GST tag, providing convenience in detecting and purifying the recombinant DCD protein during the following stages.

Dermcidin (DCD) is a human antimicrobial peptide with a broad-spectrum role in the innate immune system. It is primarily produced in eccrine sweat glands and secreted into sweat, saliva, and other bodily fluids. Dermcidin exhibits potent antimicrobial properties, particularly against bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses. By disrupting microbial membranes and inhibiting bacterial growth, dermcidin plays a crucial role in protecting the skin and mucous membranes from pathogenic infections. Additionally, dermcidin's involvement in immune responses and its potential as an antimicrobial therapeutic agent make it a subject of interest in research related to infectious diseases and dermatological conditions. Understanding dermcidin's functions contributes to insights into host defense mechanisms and the development of novel antimicrobial strategies.

DCD-1 displays antimicrobial activity thereby limiting skin infection by potential pathogens in the first few hours after bacterial colonization. Highly effective against E.coli, E.faecalis, S.aureus and C.albicans. Optimal pH and salt concentration resemble the conditions in sweat. Also exhibits proteolytic activity, cleaving on the C-terminal side of Arg and, to a lesser extent, Lys residues.; Survival-promoting peptide promotes survival of neurons and displays phosphatase activity. It may bind IgG.
