CD79A, alternatively referred to as Ig α or BCR α, constitutes the alpha component of the B cell antigen receptor complex. CD79A is predominantly found on B cell surfaces. Its function is to pair with the beta subunit, CD79B, to create a B cell receptor (BCR), which is crucial for B cell antigen recognition. Upon antigen binding to BCR, the CD79A/CD79B complex initiates activation signals, leading to B cell proliferation, differentiation, and antibody synthesis. CD79A is pivotal in B cell development, maturation, and immune responses. Moreover, abnormal CD79A expression is linked to certain B-cell lymphomas, highlighting its significance as a research and therapeutic target for B-cell related diseases.
