CD63

Cluster of Differentiation 63 (CD63), also called lysosome-associated membrane protein 3 (LAMP3), is a member of the tetraspanin superfamily. It localizes to late endosomes, lysosomes, and plasma membranes, organizing membrane microdomains, driving exosome biogenesis/secretion, and regulating cell adhesion/migration via interactions with integrins and other tetraspanins.
CD63 links to tumor metastasis (melanoma, breast cancer) via exosome-mediated signaling, and HIV replication by binding viral envelope proteins. It modulates PI3K/Akt pathways to support cell survival. Preclinical research targets CD63 with antibodies as metastatic tumor biomarkers, and inhibitors to block exosome-driven disease progression, though clinical applications remain emerging.
